The Squadron was originally formed as Hall Green and Spark Hill Squadron on 24th February 1941 but in 1966 was moved to Shirley and re-designated as 492 (Solihull) Squadron.

492 Squadron now resides in a purpose built training facility which has been fully computer networked to provide an interactive training environment.

Our current strength is 70 cadets, which makes us one of the strongest squadrons in the local area. The staffs’ commitment enables the squadron to deliver the highest standards in creating an exciting youth group.

The young people who take the challenge and put 492 (Solihull) Squadron on their CVs can boast of flying, gliding, shooting, adventure training, overseas camps, Millennium Volunteers and the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme. You then enter the next phase of your life with the Squadron motto in mind:-

'ENTER TO LEARN, GO FORTH TO SERVE'
