History of the Air Training Corps

The Air Training Corps (ATC) was formed by Royal Warrant in 1941 and sprang from the Air Defence Cadet Corps, founded in 1938 by the Air League.

circa 1950Although initially formed to meet the needs of a nation at war, the Corps continues to thrive as it enters the 21st Century.

There are now independent Air Cadet Organizations in many other countries throughout the World.

Today it continues to thrive and helps a new generation of young people, aged 13 to 22, to find a positive purpose in life.

History of 492 (Solihull) Squadron

492 Squadron has recently moved to new, purpose built accommodation and the building has been computer networked to provide an interactive training environment.

Our current strength is 70 cadets, which makes us one of the strongest squadrons in the local area. The staffs’ commitment enables the squadron to deliver the highest standards in creating an exciting youth group.

The young people who take the challenge and put 492 (Solihull) Squadron on their CV’’s can boast of flying, gliding, shooting, adventure training, overseas camps, Millennium Volunteers and the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme.
